Album News: We have completed basic instrumental tracking for our new album, which will be called Impossible Things. It's got 14 songs, I believe, and we are in the midst of laying down the vocals and guitar overdubs and things. It's maybe too early to announce a release date, but we hope to start mixing some time during the summer. Ken Gerber, who did the art for the first album, will be helping us with this one as well. The songs are all ones that have been in our set for over a year now, with the exception of one newer one written and sung by our new drummer Nate. We're really excited by the tightness of the recordings so far as compared to album #1 and think you're really going to dig this album.
Our last show: Monday, February 22nd, 7pm at The High Noon Saloon. 701 E. Washington Ave., Madison, with Anna Wang & the Oh Boys, A Minute Jack Forum, and Two Bird Rock

The band is Matt Ackerman and Mark Lint, playing guitar and bass respectively and splitting the singing songwriting duties, and Nate Pinney (not pictured above) playing drums. Mark's fronted lots of bands. Matt currently plays with Blamm-O and used to play in Doll and the Sun Dogs, among others.
Matt and Mark had met back in 2001 when they both worked at Epic Systems and Matt considered joining Madison Lint, but that band was full. That band broke up in 2004, and after some time off, Mark was looking to just play bass with some existing band, while at the same time Matt wanted to try out being a front man and had started to meet up with some members of Blamm-O to create a side project for his own material. Mark was interested in joining, and Matt invited him to contribute his songs as well, and so in spring, 2006, New People was born, but a hunt for a permanent drummer went on for a while before they found Julian Salgado Laredo in August; he had just moved to Madison from Mexico in July.
Julian played with the band for two years and plays all tracks on The Easy Thing. In summer 2009 he decided to pursue other projects, so the band now features additional singer-songwriter-drummer Nate Pinney, of late also of Madison's Ghost Town Council. Nate adds some more ROCK energy to the band and is working out splendidly. This new band has learned all the songs for album #2 and began recording in December.
What kind of music do we play? Oh, just listen to the sound files above. We're aiming for direct rock/pop here with nice harmonies over a sort of a grunge base, but we've got wide tastes, and the music will inevitably reflect that.
Where do we play? New People have been playing shows in the Madison area since Spring, 2007, mostly at Glass Nickel Pizza and Alchemy, but also at the High Noon Saloon, Frequency, Mother Fool's, and the Club Tavern in Middleton. They've played shows with the Gomers, Anna Wang & the Oh Boys, A Minute Jack Forum, and Two Bird Rock, Optometri, the Bar Code, Vanessa Tortolano, Paul Mitch, The Type, Tangy, and others.
